Individual action

Everybody have a ways to improve their learning . One of the ways to improve learning is listening to music . So , the question is can music improve learning ? What can prove this sentences ? How many people can agree this sentences ?
In my opinion , music can improve learning . This is because learning is very related with music . For example , listening to favourite song or music .So many types if music or song such as sentimental music , rock music and else . If you listen to music thats got a flow like classical it stimulates you by relaxing the mind and when the mind is relaxed you can focus more and whatever you are trying to do will be easier. So if your studying for a test and you think of a song think of a song that helps you relax then you can release your stress and when you release your stress you wont have to worry about unimportant things, and then you will be less self counscious of your actions but by making better decisions. And with that all said and done better outcomes. Beside that , when we always listening to music , we can remember the lyrics . In addition can know the meaning of the songs . Furthermore , it also improve our skills in speaking and vocabulary . For example , when we are listening to english songs , maybe it is so difficult to remember the lyric but many people success to remember the lyrics in english songs . This ways is also used in education . Many teacher used this ways to teach their student in any subject . They thought that education with music is more effectively than teach without music . This ways suitable for nursery and primary school . Chidren are easy to improve their learning with music . For secondary school , this ways are not be practised by teacher . But most of the student listening to music when their study mathematics or additional mathematics subject . It is effectively because it only do the calculation not to remember the facts such as in "sejarah" or history subject . So do I . I like to listening to music when I study engineering mathematics .
The conclusion is music is important in our daily life especially in education . So , depend to people to used it in their life whether it good or bad condition .

Summary of this topics

Everyone remembers sitting up late at night studying for tests, worrying about not being able to remember everything the next morning. And beyond that, nearly everyone has had to study and memorize something for school or work. However, you may find that studying and learning don’t come easily, and though you may have tried flash cards, studying with a friend, or even using mnemonic devices, you just can’t seem to get where you want to be.
Fortunately, there is another method that can help you remember things and can make your studying more effective. Musical training can actually help you learn.A study by Stanford University showed that musical training or experience helps the brain improve its ability to understand and use language. With musical training, the brain can process rapidly changing sounds better. This can be especially helpful for children who have difficulty with rapid auditory processing or are at risk for becoming poor readers. Early musical training can keep them from struggling early in their education, meaning they’re more likely to succeed as they progress through school.Research from Northwestern University shows that musical training not only alters how the brain’s cortex is wired, but the brainstem, as well. This research supports the study by Stanford, as well as changing what people think about the brain. Previously, it was believed that the brainstem was unable to be changed. This research can also help students with learning disabilities.
Previous research by Northwestern University showed that students with learning disabilities have abnormalities in their brainstems. Since musical training can change the brainstem, these abnormalities may be able to be corrected, helping these students be more successful in school.Other studies have also shown that listening to classical music while studying can help you remember what you’re studying. So if you don’t have musical training, you may find that playing piano concertos or violin sonatas can help you study and learn.
We all know music evokes emotional responses in people. And now these studies show that by learning an instrument or being in a choir or even taking a music appreciation course, you can strengthen your ability to understand and use language, remember what you study better, and be a better student. Who would’ve thought that a little music would completely change our memories of studying from frustration and late nights to good grades and success?

cause of music on learning

Music helps us learn because it will--

· establish a positive learning state
· create a desired atmosphere
· build a sense of anticipation
· energize learning activities
· change brain wave states
· focus concentration
· increase attention
· improve memory
· facilitate a multisensory learning experience
· release tension
· enhance imagination
· align groups
· develop rapport
· provide inspiration and motivation
· add an element of fun
· accentuate theme-oriented units

The effect of music on learning

Many students listen to music while they are studying, and say that it helps them learn. Many parents and teachers say that music is just distracting, and that students are better studying in silence.

The Mozart Effect
In a study published in a scientific journal called Nature in 1993, some scientists asked three groups of students to listen to a piece of music by Mozart (sonata for two pianos in D major) or a relaxation tape for ten minutes, or just sit in silence for ten minutes. The students then did a ‘spatial reasoning’ test (a test about remembering shapes and imagining looking at objects from different directions), and the ones who had listened to the Mozart did better in the test. However, this effect only lasted for ten minutes. The researchers thought that the ‘Mozart effect’ happened because the brain uses the same pathways for listening to music and spatial reasoning.
Other groups of scientists have repeated the ‘Mozart effect’ experiment and have not managed to get the same results. This might mean that there was a problem in the original ‘Mozart effect’ experiment, or that the people who tried to repeat the experiment have done something differently, or have missed something out. Other experiments have shown that music does not have any effect on maths tests.
Taking part in musical activities and learning to play an instrument can improve verbal memory (the ability to remember words). The longer the training lasts, the better the improvement in the memory.

Behaviour
Anecdotal evidence (things that people have seen, without carrying out scientific experiments) suggest that playing music can help learning in disruptive students or students with learning difficulties by making them calmer. In one experiment, Mozart’s orchestral music played in the background did seem to reduce the blood pressure, body temperature and pulse rate in a group students, and improve their co-ordination and behaviour.

Learning
Songs can help with learning by repeating words and putting them into patterns, rhythms and catchy tunes – for example, there are counting and spelling songs, and songs to help learn times tables. There are even songs to help students learn about advanced subjects like biochemistry, in ‘The Biochemist’s Song Book’!
Music may help learning by covering up other distracting sounds.
